Family photo, 2010

Current giveaway: The Last Pilgrims book: ends 2/23

I’m going through our latest family photos, trying to decide which one to use for our free photo canvas.  I’ll have to wait for my Photoshop experts to get home and perfect the saturation and contrast and apply some filters (what does any of that mean anyway?), but in meantime I like the one below.  I won’t crop it so severely for the canvas, of course.  Click for a bigger version.

See?  That’s not so many kids is it?  We don’t feel like a big family when they’re sitting still.  It’s when they all go running in opposite directions, or in circles ’round us.  Especially if the circles are going in opposite directions; there’s nothing that makes my left eye twitch faster than chaotic chaos.  Then it looks like somebody kicked the top off of an ant hill and we each question the other’s sanity.  Eyeing each other with mock irritation, we interrogate.  ”Whose idea was it to have all these kids anyway?”

Still no progress on a new header.  We did have a photo session last week, but our creative brain cells were on strike that day.  I can’t very well post a header with all my kids standing quietly in a row, smiling at the camera.  How realistic would that be?

    A lovely family you have there!

    Lydia and Kaitlyn could be twins! Which is which?

    That is a beautiful family photograph!

  4. Jamie adds her thoughts::

    Your new header could be the children in their marie-madeline favorites spelling out your last name–each child a differnt letter. And the baby held by one of them…..just an idea.
    Perry Boy looks well able to handle things. What a wonderfully confident and masculine look on his face.

    what a gorgeous you have!!

  6. Dalas adds her thoughts::

    Adorable!! At first though I was wondering what happened to poor Bethany’s hand, it looked shriveled!! And then I realized it was, in fact, belonging to her brother. Lol!

  7. Autumn Beck adds her thoughts::

    It’s amazing how different most look! Our children are fairly similar looking…a lot like their dad.

    I love seeing the gene pool play out, like where did that red hair come from! And then again there are some that look like twins, God is so creative! Beautiful family, thanks for sharing!

  9. sillygeese adds her thoughts::

    Okay, It IS a lovely family, but I am a photographer and my first thought was to flinch at all the head stacking. Just some feed back for you photographer.

    How about sprawled on the ground piling on top of each other pictures.

    I love the picture you have, but I see an update is necessary. Ask the kids. I bet they can come up with something.

    I really like this! And I am so impressed, you got everyone looking at the camera! I have 7 (and the eldest are ages 12 and up) and I can’t get them all to look, look pleasant &/or smile, all at the same time! Bravo!

    You all look so lovely! (I am sure your husband won’t know if that is a good thing or not LOL)

  13. Rebecca Sarine adds her thoughts::

    what a great looking family! God Bless you!

  14. Deanna adds her thoughts::

    This is a great photo!

  15. Jennifer adds her thoughts::

    Lydia and Kaitlyn I could almost not tell apart. Megan and Natalie favor a LOT and Deanna and Rebecca, despite being years apart, have very similar features. I imagine when Rebecca has grown into her adult face it will be even more noticeable. And all your girls have shades of Mrs. C’s face.

  16. Cheryl @ Treasures from a Shoebox adds her thoughts::

    Great photo! And they’re all neatly dressed with their hair fixed…Great job Mom! The children are just beautiful. Perry (Jr) looks like such a little man :)

  17. Heather adds her thoughts::

    What a beautiful picture and family. You are truly blessed.

  18. Conversatio in Caelis adds her thoughts::

    Love the picture! And it is like you said – when they all are sitting still it really doesn’t look like there are “sooooo many”. But, maybe I am a little biased – when I saw the cover of the Duggar’s book I thought: “What? Are there really 18 kids?” :-D

  19. Lady Rose adds her thoughts::

    I simply love this beautiful picture of you and your family. You are truly very blessed, indeed. :)

    Blessings,

    Is it just me or is there a teeny tiny black smiley face in the right hand corner of our blog, near the header?

    • kimc adds her thoughts::

      Genna Joy,
      The smiley is our statcounter, powered by a WordPress plugin. I could probably find the code to take him out but I think he’s kinda cute.

  21. Kristi adds her thoughts::

    Gorgeous family, wonderful picture!!!! I’m so glad to hear you question your sanity at times, we do that with only 5 (in my defense we did have 4 boys in 4 years… *twitch*)

  22. Denise adds her thoughts::

    I love big family photos!We did one last year with our 7 kids and I always sit and admire it then I tell my hubby we can add a couple more in there! lol great family God bless!

  23. Chrissy adds her thoughts::

    I’m glad to hear that a larger family doesn’t feel like they have so many kids!! We have 6 kiddos and I feel like it’s not many at all……but others….well they act like we have 2 million!!!

  24. Janie adds her thoughts::

    with the shipping and handling being $25 – sams club is still cheaper for canvas – an 8×10 with them is only 24 all the time.

    • kimc adds her thoughts::

      Janie,
      Shipping is $14.95, still almost 40% cheaper than Sam’s – and it’s delivered right to your door. Handy for somebody who doesn’t live near Sam’s or doesn’t have a membership.

  25. Janie adds her thoughts::

    oh I put a bigger canvas in my cart and the shipping was 25 – so sams is cheaper for me.

  26. -Kyrie adds her thoughts::

    I really think this is a beautiful picture! The header you’ve got now is fun, but just as a suggestion, sometimes ‘classy’ is nice too :) . Congratulations on your lovely family! Children are a blessing!!

    SOLI DEO GLORIA!
