One of the semi-finalist films at the 2010 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival was this fun little gem, Your Backyard by Crowe’s Nest Media.
Your Backyard covers 18 birds commonly seen around feeders. Those included were a nice mix of familiar and unfamiliar species. I love that their songs were included so we can identify the more shy birds that tend to stay hidden. My daughters enjoyed seeing actual videos of the birds that we see in our field guides. Most of the species highlighted are widely spread throughout the US so you have a good chance of finding them near your home.
This video has inspired us to set out new bird feeders so that we can identify more of the birds in our area!
Be sure to check out the bonus features on the DVD, and the Crowe’s Nest Media website is also chock full of fun and useful info: a list and descriptions of all the birds included in the DVD, maps of their habitat, recipes for bird feeders, and a contact form to submit your own questions about birds.
The Giveaway
Here’s the fun part: the Crowe family has asked us to give away a free copy of Your Backyard to one of our readers!
Standard giveaway rules:
- For your first entry, visit the sponsor’s site, then come back and tell me what you think. Be honest and original. By original, I mean say something more descriptive than, “Nice site.” You’ll have to, because if you say that my spam filter will shoot on site. By honest, I mean say something nice. If you don’t like the site, then you don’t want to enter the giveaway so you don’t need to comment. Right? Right.
- For up to 3 extra entries, post about this giveaway on your blog, Facebook, and Twitter. Please be a friend and make my life easy by leaving a separate comment here for each time that you share about the giveaway.
- I’ll take entries on this giveaway for 7 days, then I will choose a random winner. If I procrastinate and/or forget to choose the winner, I will eventually choose the winner from among those entries that were submitted within the first 7 days. Deal?

I wouuld love to enter, looks like a wonderful video.
It is always a joy to check out a site that desires to provide God-honoring, family-encouraging videos/books etc.
The video looks very interesting. Our family would enjoy watching this.
The page about the birds was beautiful! And I am always glad to find links to other good materials for my family. There’s so much junk out there, it is a relief to be able to access family-oriented materials. Thanks for sharing this site with us!
It’s great that they chose to teach their children about their Grandaddy by teaching them about birds – a thing that Grandaddy enjoyed so much. God used the birds to teach us that he takes care of us and that lesson must be very real to the Crowe children with all that they’ve learned about birds.
My daughter loves studing birds and this seems like a great way to help out. There are so many birds covered in the video she would love it.This would make a great gift for her! Thanks!
My oldest is a bird lover! I thought the trailer was really cute, and I love the page on birds.
How cool!!! I get tired of watching nature films with my kids and having to filter for “millions of years” and other such nonsense. I love the fact that God is mentioned and given credit for the creation in this dvd.
The site is informative and easy to navigate.
The DVD looks cute and creative, and I think it would be a good one to add to our library! There are quite a few birds covered, some that I don’t know anything about, so I think I would like it, as well as any visiting nieces or nephews.
Thank you for the opportunity!
This looks very informative, very educational! Please enter me, I would love to win. My little sister would love this.
I like the trailer about the DVD. Looks like there are a lot of ideas I could use for my girl scout troop.
Looks interesting and I like that the children are being taught by the older generation. My kids are older, but I think our entire family would enjoy this and learn a lot!
My children love “bird watching” and really enjoyed the trailer. I love the grandpa type expert!
Cute site! My two yr. old and four yr. old love to watch the birds eat in the winter and use the bird bath in the summer. They would love a DVD on birds!
OOHH I just LOVE this. I am in the process of putting bird feeders around my house to attract them. Our view was just blocked by a big house so instead of looking at a wall, I was going to place a bunch of feeders outside our picture window. This DVD would be PERFECT!!! And very informative. Thanks for posting the site, I bookmarked it for further use (in case I don’t win =(() I really liked the bird info page where it showed the different varieties of birds and the regions where they are located and what time of year… I saw two birds I already recognized. The Carolina Chickadee (love that name ) And the Junco?? (sp) I forgot the name but will be seeing it alot during our winter. I will try and blog about it later tonight or tomorrow for the extra entries. I will do anything to try and win this.
Thanks for hosting!!!

This video looks excellent! I love that there is so much information about each bird. We’ve started studying birds this year, but DS has not been very interested. I think a DVD would be much more interesting for him. I like that the sound and picture of the bird are combined.
Neat, I hope Crowe’s nest media goes on to make more videos. Our family would love this. We get a great variety of birds in our yard.
That looks like a really cool video! My mother is an avid bird watcher, and I’d love to be able to teach her something new. And my children, of course. I’d like to teach them about birds.
I get a second entry for sharing on Facebook. I know the fewer entries aren’t good for your sponsors, but it’s good for my chances.
It looks great. I so much appreciate family guality God Honoring Materials. There is so much junk and shallow items out there that quality items are rare and a Blessing.
I think it is precious that they are a God honoring, family encouraging and strengthening company!
My boys would absolutely love this. What a great way to encourage nature studies.
FB’d it just now.
