The Copper Scroll

When the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, one scroll stood out from all the rest. It was made of copper and described more than sixty vast, hidden treasures — and how to find them. But where are those treasures now?

This real-life riddle has stumped archeologists and treasure hunters for almost sixty years. Now Jonathan, Kendall, Jim, and Jessie think they’ve uncovered a clue that may unlock the mystery. As the Creation Response Team follows clues from one biblical location to the next, opposition increases on every side. The team’s even being tailed by Myles Morgan!

Join the Creation Response Team for a heart-racing archeological treasure hunt that will uncover ancient artifacts from Bible times and reveal exciting testimonies to God’s amazing creation and His inerrant Word. . . in Jonathan Park and the Copper Scroll!

It’s full price which is still a great deal, but you can get all 8 for 50% off!

Giveaway and Perry Coghlan’s video debut as – a drug dealer?!

Free nursing cover, carseat cover, sling, and more!: Just pay shipping

About a month ago, my husband stepped off to talk with a friend and was mysteriously unaccounted for during the a good part of the afternoon.  It seems he’s been up to no good.  I hope you won’t be too scandalized.  He’s a family man with obligations.  Times are hard, and we all do what we have to do.

But maybe you’re not scandalized.  Maybe you see things a little differently, or at least you recognize there may be some validity to an alternative view.  Maybe you’ll also be interested in Vision Forum’s upcoming conference, The Reformation of Food & the Family.

Food Large Giveaway and Perry Coghlans video debut as a drug dealer?!

You do it three times a day, seven days a week and fifty-two weeks a year. If you live to be 85 years of age, you will experience it more than 90,000 times. It is called food, and it was designed by God as the fuel of life. But to describe food merely as fuel falls short of the depth and breadth of the biblical message. Frankly, there are few subjects which are addressed as often in the Bible as food. Hundreds, if not thousands of Scripture verses, incorporate various types of food, directions about food and spiritual lessons in which food is an element.

The conference will be July 12-14 in San Antonio, TX.  Who wants to go?  Who wants to win a free family pass?!

THE GIVEAWAY

You know the routine.  To enter, do any or all of the below, and leave a separate comment for each entry.  If you really, really want to win, pump up your chance of winning by doing everything!

  1. Leave a comment here telling why you want to go to the conference or what you hope to learn at the conference.
  2. Blog about this giveaway for 3 extra entries!  Remember to leave 3 separate comments if you blog about it.
  3. Share this giveaway on Facebook.
  4. Like The Reformation of Food & the Family Conference on Facebook.

We will choose one random winner to receive a free family pass valued at $399!  See ya there!

This giveaway has ended.  The winner is Hannah, who said: “I would love to win because I am just learning about more healthy food and would love to learn more for free!”

Giveaway: Complete Jonathan Park Adventure Library

Free nursing cover, carseat cover, sling, and more!: Just pay shipping

This one is for Facebook only, but I wanted to make sure you heard about it.  Maybe you have a FB account but don’t use it very often, so you might have been kicking yourself when you logged in just in time to see what you missed.

Life in a Shoe passed the 2,000 mark in Likes on Facebook, so I’m celebrating by giving away all 7 Jonathan Park Adventure albums!  Just leave a comment on the FB giveaway post to enter to win this fun, wholesome series that will help equip parents and children to defend creation truths against evolutionary lies.

Do you have any of these?  I would love to hear what your family thinks of them.  I like to tell people about the time my 20yo cousin was riding home from work with my husband and Perry popped a CD into the player.  At the beginning of the ride Jason was mocking it and complaining that he wanted to listen to music.  By the time they got home, he sheepishly asked Perry to leave the key in the ignition so he could hear the end.

Psst!  I didn’t know this until I kicked off the giveaway, but the Jonathan Park Adventure library is on sale right now for 40% off – just $105 for 84 exciting creation science adventures!

Mystery Box prayers

Free nursing cover, carseat cover, sling, and more!: Just pay shipping

This isn’t exactly a sales post, though it might sound like one.  I wanted to share 75843 m Mystery Box prayerstoday’s Deal Of The Day because it has special meaning to me.

Today’s deal is…

…the Vision Forum Mystery Box, a fantastic opportunity to obtain at least $100 worth of great family-building books, toys, movies, audio albums, or any combination of those items, all for one incredibly low price!

When you open your Mystery Box, you will discover an assortment of Vision Forum products that are sure to surprise and encourage your family. However, we can’t tell you what will be inside your specific box. We don’t know ourselves! The only thing we know about your particular order is that you will receive a combination of products worth at least $100 retail, all for just $30 — a massive 70% discount.

Here’s why the Mystery Box is special to me: the girls and I assembled most or all of these boxes.  Knowing that a random selection of products won’t always be exactly what a customer is hoping for, I prayed while I worked that God would make the contents of each box particularly appropriate to the recipient.

If you decide to order one, I would love to hear how He answered this prayer.

I bought these books for my own personal use around a year ago, but I only read a few before I got distracted by other books, such as Lord of the Rings, the Inkheart trilogy, C. S. Lewis’ ‘Space Trilogy’ and other interesting but not as useful books. We have another set of such books in the house so I don’t need my own set anyway, and I’m trying to earn a bit of money so I can pay my sister back for her half of my shiny new guitar she helped me buy.

Guitar 2 200x300 For sale: Ballantyne adventure library (20 hardback volumes)

I haven’t been playing guitar long.  I started at the beginning of July. The only guitar we had in the house was a rather beaten up student size, so I decided I needed a nice full size of my own. Mom has a Yamaha 12 string that was living with Grandma.  We brought that one back home and I really liked it, but I still wanted something a little easier to play than a 12 string, and better than a 12 year old student size guitar. I decided I definitely wanted a Yamaha and started looking at the reviews for the different types. I settled on a FG720s. Dad took me to Guitar Center at the beginning of their huge Labor Day weekend sale and to my disappointment they were out of that particular type.  The man in the acoustic room was very helpful.  He showed me a slightly different and also much better guitar(fg730s). It was on sale for $250, and counting sales tax it came up to about $280 which was what I was ready to pay for the other guitar. The cool thing is this one is a step up from my first choice, and consequently normally costs up to $100 more when not on sale. All the reviews said to wait, save your money and pay the extra because this one is just that awesome. So I now have my very own sparkly.

Guitar 3 200x300 For sale: Ballantyne adventure library (20 hardback volumes)

Normally I wouldn’t be in such a rush to earn money right now but the guitar is half Deanna’s until I pay her back. I also need to buy fabric for an outfit ’cause some friends are having a medieval costume party in just a few short months. So, if you can help me out I would be much obliged.

Guitar 1 200x300 For sale: Ballantyne adventure library (20 hardback volumes)

One of our very favorite homeschool items from Vision Forum is on sale this week, and I thought you should know.  That’s partly because it’s a great sale on some great stuff, and partly because as I told you in an earlier post this morning, my bottom is plastered to a chair today and it’s not moving. The Deal: Save 40% when you purchase any three or more individual Jonathan Park albums. Or, save 50% when you purchase the 7-album Jonathan Park Complete Adventure Collection or the 4-album Jonathan Park Creation Guide Series.  Here are all the individual Jonathan Park albums.

So while I sit here working on other posts for later this week, you can pop over and get some cheap thrills – er, I mean a great price on some real adventures.  Same thing, wildly different connotation, huh?

Ballantyne’s books are filled with shipwrecks, polar bears, Viking expeditions, pirate attacks, Eskimo encounters, the deep jungles of Africa and South America, gold mines, dangerous savages, and many other heart-pounding, page-turning adventures. But though his tales featured earthly adventures and conquests, they were also self-consciously and vigorously Christian.

Can you see why I’m so excited?  It almost reads like a list of 4 Moms posts or FAQ for Families.  I’ll be the first to admit that I’m full of good intentions that fall by the wayside, but I’ve resolved that I actually will make time to listen to these, because they are so relevant to everyday life for us.

Beginning March 1, every Tuesday morning for twenty weeks you will receive a link to your new downloadable message from Doug or Beall, hosted at Vision Forum’s partner website BlueBehemoth.com.

Don’t have a free BlueBehemoth account yet?  Get one so you can take advantage of daily free downloads!

    The Giveaway

These 20 weekly messages are being sold for $95.  That’s a great deal at less than $5/message, but you can save $10 by ordering before Feb. 28.  You can save another $25 by using the coupon code SAVE25 (exp. 2/28).

Or you just might get them free by entering our giveaway.

For your first entry, leave a comment telling which message from the list above you think would be most helpful to your family.  You must do this to enter.

For up to 11 additional entries, do any or all of the following and leave a separate comment for each.  Each legitimate comment will count as one entry.

    1. Post about this giveaway on facebook, twitter, and/or your blog.  Leave a separate comment here for each place you share.
    2. Share a link to your favorite product from Vision Forum on facebook, twitter, and/or your blog.  Again, leave a separate comment providing the link for each.
    3. Share your favorite Life in a Shoe post on facebook, twitter, and/or your blog.  Leave a comment telling where you shared it.
    4. Create a free account on Blue Behemoth and leave a comment here to tell me.
    5. Subscribe to Life in a Shoe and leave a comment to let me know.  If you’re already a subscriber, just leave a comment saying so.

Don’t procrastinate: Because of the time-sensitive nature of this giveaway, we’ll take entries until midnight Sunday and announce the winner on Monday, Feb. 28.  That will give the rest of you time to take advantage of the special $85 price.

Sugar cookies and other sweet things

Free nursing cover, carseat cover, sling, and more!: Just pay shipping

I put off the sugar cookies for the first 2 weeks of December because I was afraid the mess would endanger my sanity, which would in turn leave my kids scarred, causing them to grow up and hate Christmas and/or sugar cookies.  I just wasn’t sure it was worth the risk.

But I’m a wild and crazy person and I hate to let myself be ruled by irrational fears or OCD, so we decided that today was the day.  I was on my own with all the big ones gone, but I didn’t let that stop me.  I whipped up a double batch of sugar cookie dough, poured a tall glass of milk, and called the little ones into the kitchen.

No, she doesn’t have smudges on her face from making cookies.  This poor child always looks like this.  I wash her face every 20 minutes all day long, but you’d never know it.  Good thing she’s so cute.

I never noticed in real life, but in photos my hands look just like my mom’s.  I hope my kids will look down at their own hands someday and have sweet memories of doing things with their mom.

Gold sugar sprinkles for the bells and stars, red for the candy canes, green for the wreaths.  We’ll add stripes, dots and other details with white icing later.  No, I’m not a control freak.  Why do you ask?

DSC08657 200x300 Sugar cookies and other sweet things

See?  Not a control freak.  I let her mix gold, red and green for her stars.  Well, the last three stars.  All the others were done correctly.

More sweet stuff:  this boy is so sweet we call him Sweet Pickle.  I know his ears stick out, but that doesn’t keep all the girls from falling for him.  I don’t just mean his sisters.  Everywhere I go, he flirts with the ladies and makes each one feel special.  ”Did you see that,”  I hear them whisper.  ”He’s so cute, and he smiled at me!”

Puppies are almost as sweet as kids making sugar cookies.  Want one?  A puppy, I mean, not a cookie – though we would be happy to include free cookies with the purchase of any puppy.  Purebred Golden Retrievers for $350 to $400, ready just in time for Christmas, and we’ll throw in lunch if you come pick up your Christmas pup in person.

Amphibious tanks for sale: 2/$45 shipped

Free nursing cover, carseat cover, sling, and more!: Just pay shipping

tank1 Amphibious tanks for sale: 2/$45 shippedRemember the Remote Control Amphibious Airsoft Tank?  Vision Forum no longer sells them, but our family has some to clear out.

I know I said I wasn’t going to blog in December, but there’s a whole stack of these blocking the aisle in our little library, and I would love to send them to new homes.

These tanks were the coolest toy in the 2010 Vision Forum catalog!  They sold for the bargain price of $50, though they have a sticker price of $79.  Here’s the deal: get 2 tanks, 2 controllers, and one charger for $30 plus $15 shipping.

These are huge fun!  They go forward and back, left and right; they have lights; they shoot airsoft pellets from a gun turret with just enough force to sting a bit but not to do damage.  They can also go in water as the name suggests, though I’ll warn you now that it does tend to cause problems if the tank turns over in the water.

They come in 3 different frequencies, so if you want more than 3 be aware that they will interfere with each other.  This can be fun too, if you manage to turn your opponent’s tank on him.  :)

An enterprising mom could use one of these to carry a note to a child in another room.  That note could request a soda, because these tanks have 4 drink holders.  Nifty, huh?

Caveat: these tanks were returned for various reasons, but we have checked each one thoroughly, discarding and replacing bad controllers, battery packs, etc.  Boy, was it fun! Please check your tank on arrival as we will only offer a 7 day warranty.

We have several lots of these.  Just use the contact form at the bottom to let us know how many lots of 2 you want.
Click through to Vision Forum to check out many of this year’s cool toys which are now 20-50% off, including but not limited to the newest Jonathan Park album, Airsoft handgun with laser, and AK-47 Combat Rifle Rubberband Gun.  Want to justify all the money you’ll spend?  Check this out: Building a Winning Curriculum with Vision Forum Products.

    Film Festival!!!

Free nursing cover, carseat cover, sling, and more!: Just pay shipping

This is one of our favorite weekends of the year – the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival!  Will you be there?  We’ve been counting down for months, looking forward to seeing people we only see once/year, watching film trailers online, and poring over the schedule.

The first part of this week was one long fashion show as the girls tried to decide what they were wearing, especially after receiving 5 boxes of hand-me-downs from some very sweet friends – you should have heard the squeals of joy (It fits!) and anguish (It doesn’t fit!) and more joy (It looks perfect on you!).

And while I’m on the topic of fashion, I’ll just come out and say it: I…um…

I thought carefully and decided to…

    um…

Well, the festival is at two separate venues a mile apart.  We’re going to be walking a lot.

Here it is: I’m wearing sneakers with a skirt.  It’s not a denim skirt, and I don’t know if that makes it better or worse.  My four fashionable teens assure me that I do not look like the stereotypical homeschool mom (is it bad that I want so badly to avoid that?) and I think I believe them – until I look down and see besneaker’d toes peeking out from beneath my hem.

So there you have it.  If we meet, go ahead and glance down at my feet.  I’ll pretend not to notice, but I’ll be checking out your footwear at the same time.

free $50 Vision Forum gift certificates

Free nursing cover, carseat cover, sling, and more!: Just pay shipping

banner free $50 Vision Forum gift certificatesI love this sale!  Nearly every year, Vision Forum runs a brief special where they automatically give you a free $50 gift certificate for every $95 you spend!  There are no coupons or promo codes necessary – the gift certificate just shows up in your cart at checkout.  There’s no limit on this sale, and no need to split up your orders into neat little $95 packages.  If you order $190, you’ll receive $100 in gift certificates.  If you order $285, you’ll get $150 free.
The sale ends at midnight, October 1.

This is also the perfect time to check out the new and improved Vision Forum website.  It’s undergone a complete overhaul, and it’s crisp, clean and beautiful!  It has separate categories for bestsellers, recently added items, clearance, and featured products.  Now you can also sort and filter categories by price, type, age, discount, date added, and more.  Check it out and tell me how beautiful it is!

One last thing: if you’re not already a Vision Forum affiliate, now is the time to join.  This is the best time of the year for affiliate sales, and you can even earn commissions on your own purchases if you place your order through one of your own affiliate links.  There are other perks, too.  Affiliates often get advance notice of sales and free review products, and the opportunity to host giveaways on their blogs – the perfect way to introduce readers to Vision Forum.

If you think I’m telling you about the affiliate program because I’m a really nice person, think again.  If you sign up through one of my links, I’ll get a small commission on anything that earns you a commission.  Not out of your pocket, mind you.  You get your 8-12%, plus I get 2%.  We both win.  You’ve gotta love that.

Now go buy something.  We went grocery shopping today, and boy could I use some commissions.  ;)

    Posted by: KittyKait

While we were at the Homeschool conference in Plano a few weekends ago, I lost my iPod touch.  Ouch.  You have no idea how hard it hurt to say that.

I’m going to wait until September 9th to replace it when the newest generation comes out.  That way the price on the old one will drop. Or if the new one is super awesome-er enough I’ll buy it.  Though if I decide to buy the new one I’ll probably wait a few weeks after the release and buy a refurbished one from Amazon.

But of course I’ll need money to carry out this plan.  So, you buy my stuff, I buy iPod and then we’re all happy.

All items are new from Vision Forum or from the Vision Forum clearance rack.

    One really cool radio:
67352 m In Which I Shamelessly Guilt You into Giving Me Money

    Solarlink Survival Radio

You  can use the solar panel, a hand crank or AAA batteries in it to power this radio.  It also has a USB port in the back to charge a phone or pretty much anything else in the world.  And an auxiliary port, which lets you use the speakers on the radio to listen to an iPod.

New from Vision Forum. The box is dented at one corner. $35 with free shipping.

    One very nice Dictionary:
36547 m In Which I Shamelessly Guilt You into Giving Me Money

    Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

A dictionary with Christian perspective. What else is there to say?
There are a few little wrinkles on the bottom corner of the back cover but it’s hardly noticeable.  It looks like the paper/vinyl was not carefully applied to the board.  $35 with free shipping.

And Natalie wanted me to add that she is selling a Fidelia doll.

natdoll 185x300 In Which I Shamelessly Guilt You into Giving Me Money

She is selling her for $45 with free shipping.

Deal of the day – Fidelia doll

Free nursing cover, carseat cover, sling, and more!: Just pay shipping

72588 m Deal of the day Fidelia doll If you don’t watch Vision Forum’s deal of the day in the sidebar, you should.  Every day they have one item at roughly 50% off.  Today, it’s the beautiful Fidelia doll for just $41.25.  She’s usually $75!

Hurry, because there will be a new deal tomorrow.  But if you read this too late, give it a try anyway.  Sometimes the prices are still good for an extra day after the deal disappears from the front page.
