Hey guys. Did you ever accidentally type in http://www.inshoe.com when going to your website? Leave out the “a” and you see the funniest thing!
Great Background for Christmas, and what a lovely, festive Header… am I to assume this is what all Texans do for lack of snow at Christmas?
Cute!
And like the wreath in “Shoe”!
Hey you guys have a beautiful family. Just curious (hope I’m not being too personal…if so don’t answer), do you and hubby practice open womb, meaning no type of contraception (including Basil/natural family planning), or do you? If so how do you determine the spacing, or when do you fell like the Lord is calling you to conceive? You guys are truly courageous and blessed!!
)
Felicia,
We don’t use any forms of contraception; we trust God completely in this area. Rather, we strive to trust Him completely in every area of life, and this is how we think it applies to “family planning.”
I’ve blogged on the issue a couple of times. You can search “quiverfull” on our blog to read more about where we stand on the issue.

Hello Kim! Didnt know where to post this on your site so here goes. I thought I would encourage you with some of the events of our ‘building day’. For some reason we were under the impression that we would get the floors laid on 2 levels of the new addition. That was our first mistake. By noon with 1/2 of one floor done I was pretty discouraged and wondered why things dont flow easier when I realized that our building crew consists of a 16m14 &12 year old girl and a 10,8,4 and 3 year old boy. Well, and dad too of course! Then we heard in the forecast RAIN! So we ran down to the hardware store (for the 3rd time this day) and bought interior stain to coat the floors so they wont get ruined. While I was there I was on the phone with one daughter and noticed a boy looking at me very STRANGELY. Could it be that I said…”Abigail, when you finish making the cake, screw down the rest of the floor at the joints~dont use nails” Who knows… Well I wont bore you with the plethora of unpleasant details but you will be happy to know that noone was stung by the 2 wasp nests we disturbed behind a wall. (More like wasp colonies actually) And now that I think about it I shouldn’t have been complaining at noon at all because by nightfall, my kitchen sink was in the ‘addition’. Sounds nice except that it only has 3 walls and no roof. I was okay doing the dishes out there until the bat flew by …then I flew into the house for the duration. Well Praise the Lord that His mercies are new every morning…I am going to need them:) Bless you!
Hi Mrs. Coghlan!
I was so excited to see that I recently won your drawing for the Marie-Madeline Studio gift certificate. I don’t think I’ve ever entered an online drawing before, so that was exciting.
I was wondering if maybe I gave you the wrong email address, as I haven’t heard from the gals at Marie Madeline yet. I don’t know if that’s unusual or not, so I thought I’d just make sure that I gave you the correct email address.
I love reading your blog- it’s so real and helpful.
In Christ,

KimC,
Did you ever receive my inquiry about reviewing the book, One Million Arrows? We had a great blog tour and I’m going to do another one in May–would you be interested? I notice you have a few people on your blog roll who participated last time including Kimberly at Raising Olives.
Anyhow, we’re really trying to get the word out because it’s an inspirational message about raising world changers and the profits for the book go to international orphans.
Let me know if you’re interested. All the items you need to post are provided so it’s super easy to participate.
Blessings,
Julie Ferwerda
I love and agree with the opinions of waiting. I was just told I am pregnant and the pregnancy is in my cervix but half way up into it. I had a tubal litigation 7 yrs ago and it included, cutting, burning and burying the ends and yet I am pregnant now. My type of pregnancy is virtually unheard of but we are leaving it in gods hands and will be closely monitoring things. My doctor said i had to have it removed asap. I have declined to do so. I am in desperate need in any information in this type of pregnancy. Please feel free to email me asap. Tammyc246222@yahoo.com
I am very interested in purchasing one of your Fidelia dolls that are for sale as of today, April 21st. Please email me if one is still available.
Thanks

Hi Kim,
I am 6 weeks pregnant, and the morning sickness has suddenly hit BAD!!!! I’m trying to work part time, as well as keep the pregnancy a secret for now, so I’m desperately looking for something that works and will help me function at least reasonably well.
I came across your many “bean posts,” and am trying that right now. Do green beans also work? They were not listed on Karen Hurd’s article, so I thought maybe they’re not the right kind or something. Also, would you mind sharing some of your bean recipes with me?
I would greatly appreciate your help! Thank-you very much!
Lois,
I don’t think green beans will do the trick. I used mainly pinto beans, because those were already in our diet. Canned refried beans work if you don’t have the time or inclination to cook dry beans. I didn’t use a lot of varied recipes since food was the last thing I wanted to think about – usually I just ate a few bites of plain or seasoned beans whenever nausea struck, often every 20 or 30 minutes. They didn’t always sound good, but they always stayed down!
Hi Kim. I posted on another post about the Book fair in Arlington yesterday. I did visit the Vision Forum booth to say hello and met such a nice family. Thank you. Also thank you for leading me to discovering the Vision Forum. I have seen things here on your blog for ages but in all honesty never really looked. Whoa what a waste. I wish I had looked earlier. They have such AMAZING things. I LOVED the booth. WE will be ordering many many things from them in th future. Thank you!!! Heather in Tx.
Hi! I’ve been reading your blog for a little while now and really love it
I’m expecting my first baby this summer.
I am planning on having her at the hospital, but am planning on doing a natural birth. I’m wondering whether you took any birth classes before your first (although I guess that was awhile back for you) or have any recommendations/tips
A lot of the classes around here seem a bit weird to me, so I’m kind of reluctant to go, but then of course I don’t want to be unprepared!
Anna
Anna,
We didn’t take any formal classes, but we did buy a couple of books to help us study and practice the Bradley method and associated techniques basically just relaxation techniques to help reduce tension, which in turn makes labor less painful. It still hurts – hoo boy does it hurt – but being able to relax effectively and self-consciously sure helps.
It also helped that I saw 8 or 9 of my siblings being born, so I had a very good idea of what to expect. I would suggest reading up on the mechanics of natural childbirth, and attending or watching some natural births.
Hi, Kim
Have fun in your name hunt. I scanned some of the comments, and all the pretty girl names made me want to change my guess to a girl!
It’s been almost a year to the day (I just checked) since you emailed a response to my email, and I’ve been meaning to say thanks! I asked you if you ever felt like being “done” having children and what you did about it. I was pregnant with #8 at the time. Anyway, thanks for your reply; it was helpful (you probably don’t even remember what you said- ha). I am so thankful for your blog (and a few others…well, I think there are MANY but I don’t have time to check them all out!). It is nice to be encouraged in the area of trusting God, specifically in regards to family size. We are the largest family in our church and only one other family there shares our same philosophy. So it’s nice to hear stories and advice from other large families! God has used your blog and Vision Forum to keep my heart on the right path, especially when hormones cause me to want to go another way. I am so dumbfounded by how children bless us, just like God says. It seems the more we have, the more it makes sense. I wish more Christians would believe God and give Him a chance to show Himself faithful in this area. I’m happy to say I’d be excited for a #9 (even told hubby “the next one is a boy and his name is David!). I usually get a little fearful of getting pregnant again once our baby is born and the “abstaining period” is over…this is the first time I haven’t felt that way…like we’re following the most normal plan in the world! It’s too bad that it’s not normal. Shortly after your email, I read “Be fruitful and Multiply.” A friend jokingly picked it up at our young mom’s garage sale and said, “Here, I think you need this book.” To her surprise, I was excited because I had always wanted to read that! I went home and read most of it that night. It made me weep… I got down on my knees and prayed for believers who don’t get it. Wow, there’s so much tl say, but I know I’m talking to someone who “get’s it.”
Take care,
Tiffany
Hello Kim!
I am a regular reader of your blog and appreciate it so much. I have used many of your tips regarding homeschooling, frugal living, and fitting a growing family into a small home. I especially want to thank you for sharing the advice to eat beans to combat morning sickness. I am four weeks pregnant with my fourth child and the morning sickness is savage (I’m one of those pregnant ladies who does EVERYTHING early: early morning sickness, showing at 3 months, babies born at 36 weeks, etc.) Beans have become my best friend! My family thinks it is a riot to see mom eating tacos for breakfast! Thanks so much!
God Bless,
Meg
Hi Kim,
Just found your blog and what a treat!
Actually I was looking at the bunk bed options, and couldn’t find any post about you finishing the ‘mulit-plex’ bunk-bed project. Have you posted any pics? Or did you decide to do something different?
I’m intrigued by your Couch-to-5k, but i think I’d need 10 MONTHS not 10 WEEKS!
Grace and peace,
Julie
Julie,
We ended up using the pallet racks from Costco. We bought them as a temporary solution – a trial because the dimensions were the same as the beds we wanted to build – and the kids talked us into keeping them. They liked the portability – can slide the whole thing from room to room if we want, and can easily rearrange the room. We wouldn’t have been able to do that with built-in units.
What an awesome idea! It’s funny how we can get so caught up in the cultural norm of kids “needing” their own room, and a ton of everything. Our three boys have always shared a room. They have a big room now, with lots of space, but started out in a bedroom 9’4″ x 9’8″.
You just get used to it
Julie
Hi,
just wanted to say I came across your blog post on ectopic pregnancies. Thank you for the information you presented, I have always wondered about that.
